Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Lensey ("we", "our", or "us") collects, uses, stores, and protects your personal information when you use our mobile application and website. We built Lensey with a privacy-first mindset: most of your data stays on your device, and we only process in the cloud what is strictly necessary for the service to function.

1Information We Collect

Account Information

Stored in Firebase

When you create an account, we collect your email address via Firebase Authentication. This is used solely to identify your account and link your in-app purchases (reactants and subscriptions) to you. We do not use your email for marketing newsletters, and we do not share it with advertisers.

Location Data

Device Only

We request access to your device's location to:

  • Display your current position on the Sun Map;
  • Calculate Golden Hour times for your exact coordinates;
  • Fetch local weather data for your current location.

Your location is processed entirely on your device. It is never transmitted to our servers, stored in the cloud, or shared with third parties.

Photos & Media

Temporary Processing

When you use the AI Lab feature, you select a photo from your device's gallery. Here is exactly what is sent and why:

  • Selected photo: the image file (including any embedded metadata such as EXIF) is uploaded to Firebase Cloud Storage and forwarded to the Replicate API for AI processing;
  • Mask file: when you use the object-removal tool, the mask you draw is also uploaded and sent to Replicate along with the photo;
  • Firebase user ID: included with each request to authorize you, check your reactant balance, and prevent abuse;
  • Generated result: the output image is returned to our backend and then downloaded to your device.

Original photos and masks are automatically deleted from Firebase Cloud Storage after the result is available. We do not permanently store your images in Firestore or link them to your user profile.

We do not use your photos to train AI models, sell them, or share them with advertisers. We only process them to produce the output you requested.

Gear & Equipment Data

Local Storage Only

Cameras, lenses, and gear sets you create in the Backpack section are stored exclusively in local device storage (Hive). This data never leaves your phone, is not synced to the cloud, and is not linked to your account.

Purchase & Currency Data

Stored in Firebase

We store your in-app purchase history and current balance of reactants (in-app currency) in Firebase Firestore. This is necessary to restore your purchases across devices and to prevent abuse of the free trial system. We do not store payment card details — all transactions are handled by Apple App Store or Google Play.

Analytics & Usage Data

Website Only

Our website (lensey.app) uses Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use the site. This includes:

  • Pages you visit and how long you stay on them;
  • Buttons you click (for example, App Store / Google Play download links and screenshot navigation);
  • Approximate location (country/city, derived from your IP address), device type, browser, and the website that referred you.

The Lensey mobile app itself does not use any third-party analytics, tracking, or crash reporting tools. Google Analytics runs on the website only, and we do not collect your name, email, precise location, or any photos through it.

2How We Use Your Information

  • To provide core features: camera assistance, golden hour calculation, AI photo processing, and gear management;
  • To process purchases: validating and restoring your reactants and subscriptions via Apple/Google;
  • To maintain security: preventing fraud and abuse of the AI generation system (cooldowns, balance checks);
  • To communicate with you: only if you contact us for support.

3Third-Party Services

We use a limited set of third-party services to operate Lensey:

Firebase (Google)

We use Firebase Authentication, Firestore, Cloud Functions, and Cloud Storage. These services process your account ID, email, purchase status, and temporary image uploads. Firebase operates under Google's Privacy Policy.

Google Analytics

Our website uses Google Analytics 4, provided by Google LLC. Google Analytics uses cookies and similar technologies to collect standard internet log information and visitor behavior patterns. The information is used to compile statistical reports on website activity. You can opt out of Google Analytics by using a browser add-on or by disabling cookies in your browser settings. For details, see Google's Privacy Policy and How Google uses information from sites that use its services.

Replicate

AI image generation is powered by Replicate, Inc. (United States). Your selected photo (and mask, if applicable) is sent to their API for processing and is handled under Replicate's Privacy Policy.

Replicate processes your images solely to fulfill the AI generation request. Under Replicate's privacy and security practices, customer content is not used to train foundation models and is handled in accordance with industry-standard security measures. We have assessed that Replicate provides a level of personal data protection that is comparable to the protections described in this policy.

Apple App Store & Google Play

All payments are processed through Apple's and Google's respective platforms. We do not collect or store your payment information. Please refer to Apple's Privacy Policy and Google's Privacy Policy.

4Data Storage & Security

  • Local data (gear sets, app settings, cached locations) is stored in encrypted local device storage (Hive) and is protected by your device's operating system security;
  • Cloud data (account, purchases, reactant balance) is stored in Firebase Firestore with security rules that restrict access strictly to your authenticated user ID;
  • Temporary images uploaded for AI processing are automatically deleted after the operation completes and are never stored long-term.

5Your Consent for AI Lab

Before any photo is sent to Replicate for AI processing, Lensey displays a clear disclosure that explains:

  • What is sent: the selected photo, processing parameters, and (for object removal) a mask file;
  • Who receives it: Replicate, Inc. (United States);
  • Why it is sent: to generate the edited/processed version of your photo;
  • Retention: the original photo is deleted from our servers after the result is returned.

Processing begins only after you explicitly opt in by checking the consent box and tapping "Start Processing". You can grant or revoke this consent at any time in the app settings (Settings → Options → AI Lab Data Sharing). If you revoke consent, you can still use all other Lensey features, but AI Lab will be unavailable until consent is granted again.

6Your Choices

You can grant or revoke permission for AI Lab photo processing at any time in the app settings (Settings → Options → AI Lab Data Sharing). If you revoke consent, you can still use all other Lensey features, but AI Lab will be unavailable until consent is granted again.

7Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the following rights:

  • Access & Export: You can request a copy of the data we hold about you (account email and purchase balance);
  • Correction: You can update your account information within the app;
  • Deletion: You can delete your account and all associated cloud and local data directly in the app (Settings → Danger Zone → Delete Account). The deletion is immediate and irreversible. If you prefer, you can also contact us for assistance;
  • Withdraw Consent: You can revoke location or photo permissions at any time through your device settings. Revoking permissions may disable certain features, but will not prevent you from using the rest of the app.

8Children's Privacy

Lensey is not intended for children under the age of 13 (or the minimum age required by local law). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such data, please contact us and we will delete it immediately.

9Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal reasons. We will notify you of any material changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of Lensey after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
